Plan a system that fits your site

Start with a decision on the farm: when to irrigate, when to schedule field work or which area needs inspection. Weather and field records help you see conditions more clearly. They do not replace knowledge of the crop, soil and local farming practice.

  1. Step 1

Describe the crop, growing stage, field areas and the decision you want to improve. Choose the measurements or forecast information that help with that decision instead of collecting unrelated data.

  2. Step 2

Select suitable observation points and a data service. A station measures its location; a forecast or mapped soil estimate covers an area. Confirm which values come from physical sensors and which come from a model.

  3. Step 3

Review the information with the farm team, compare it with field checks and record decisions. Begin with a practical pilot if the site or crop response is not yet understood, then agree whether to expand.

What to prepare before asking for a quote

  • Send the farm location, approximate area, crop type, irrigation method and field access. Include existing measurements, problems during dry or wet periods and the staff who will use the information.
  • State whether you need observations, advice-supporting information or automatic irrigation control. A dashboard does not automatically operate a pump or valve; control equipment and safety rules need a separate agreed scope.

Care and ongoing costs

Include field access, sensor cleaning and checks after changes to land use or irrigation. Review the placement of observation points as the farm expands. Budget for data-service renewal and equipment care as well as purchase.

Know the limits

No fixed yield increase or water saving is promised from installing monitoring alone. The outcome depends on the crop, soil, weather, irrigation and how the team uses the information. Forecasts and mapped soil estimates should be checked against local observations.

Questions before you order

Do I need a sensor in every field?

Not necessarily. Different soils, slopes, crops and irrigation zones may need separate observations. Start by mapping those differences; the team can then discuss representative locations and the limits of using one reading for a larger area.

Can the system water the crop automatically?

Monitoring and automatic control are different scopes. Share the pump, valve and existing control details if automation is needed. The offer should state the control rules, manual override and what happens when a sensor, network or power supply fails.
