Strengthening Water Level Monitoring at Three Ciliwung–Cisadane Locations
Water level monitoring at Cengkareng Drain, Dadap, and the Airport Outlet demonstrates that more responsive river management begins with accurate field data, proper installation, and real-time dashboard integration; through this system, water-level changes can be continuously monitored, directly verified in the field, and used as a basis for faster, more measurable evaluation to support more reliable management across the Ciliwung–Cisadane region.
Reliable water level monitoring begins with consistent field measurements. In river basin areas such as the Ciliwung and Cisadane, which flow from upstream to downstream through densely populated urban areas and critical infrastructure, information on changes in water level helps field personnel understand channel conditions and determine the appropriate next steps for monitoring.
To support this need, water level monitoring devices were installed at three locations: Cengkareng Drain, Dadap Urban Village, and the Airport Outlet. Installation took place from October 7–17, 2025, under the management of the Ciliwung Cisadane River Basin Organization (BBWS Ciliwung Cisadane) as the project owner.
Each location was equipped with a water level monitoring device, a manual staff gauge, and protective fencing. These components serve complementary functions. The sensor provides measurement data, the staff gauge serves as a direct field reference, while the fence helps protect the equipment and improve safety around the installation.
Reliable measurement begins with proper installation
Data reliability depends on more than just the sensor itself. The position of the equipment, the stability of its mounting structure, and the alignment of the measurement zero point also determine the quality of the results. Therefore, installation at each site began with adjustments based on the design drawings and actual field conditions. Once the equipment was installed, the team carried out sensor positioning, functional testing, and initial calibration.
The manual staff gauge was mounted on a permanent structure based on a predetermined datum or elevation reference point. Its readings were then checked to ensure consistency with the measurements produced by the monitoring device. This gives field personnel a reliable reference for directly verifying water levels during on-site inspections.
Work began at Cengkareng Drain from October 7–9, 2025, continued at Dadap Urban Village from October 10–13, and concluded at the Airport Outlet from October 14–17. At all three locations, the installation of monitoring devices, staff gauges, and protective fencing was completed according to the implementation schedule.
Field data is available through the dashboard
Following installation, data from the monitoring devices at all three locations was successfully integrated into the monitoring dashboard. Water level information can be displayed in real time, enabling personnel to track changing conditions over time and use the data for monitoring and evaluation activities.
This integration connects physical field installations with day-to-day data management requirements. The installed sensors provide measurements, while the dashboard allows personnel to view the results within a centralized monitoring system.
The installations at Cengkareng Drain, Dadap Urban Village, and the Airport Outlet represent a concrete step toward strengthening the availability of water level data within the working area of BBWS Ciliwung Cisadane. To maintain these benefits over the long term, equipment operation should be supported by periodic inspections of the sensors, staff gauges, protective structures, and the consistency of data displayed on the dashboard.
